Students who want to gain college credit in literature without taking a class can take the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam. Anyone seeking college credit can take CLEP exams. Homeschoolers, military personnel, and adult learners are typical CLEP test takers, but exams are also open to college and high school students. CLEP exams are helpful for students seeking higher education outside of the traditional classroom.

The Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP assesses a test taker's ability to read and understand poetry and prose, whereas other CLEP exams test their knowledge of the literary works themselves. The pass rate of the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam is 75 percent.

A scaled score is calculated, based on multiple-choice questions and essay scores, that range from 20 to 80. The student then earns an A, B, C, or D based on this score. The letter grade is applied to your college course equivalent.
