The CLEP College Composition Modular exam assesses writing skills taught in most first-year college composition courses. The ratio of topics to content representation on the exam, according to The College Board, is listed below:

Why take the College Composition Modular CLEP?
If you’ve taken a beginner writing skills or college composition course, taking the College Composition Modular CLEP is a great opportunity for you to earn college credit. By taking CLEP exams you can apply prior or current knowledge to get a head start on your higher education pathway, enhance your degree, and save time and money on courses. Students can take a variety of exams on entry-level collegiate topics in order to bypass these courses in college or university. Does this sound familiar? That may be because many students take CLEP tests in conjunction with DSST tests. While both offer college credit, CLEP tests offer testing in mainstream subjects while DSST test subjects are more specialized.
How long is the CLEP College Composition Modular exam?
The College Composition Modular CLEP exam consists of 90 questions to be answered in 95 minutes.
How much credit can I earn for CLEP exams?
Each college and university has its own CLEP policy, and each exam is weighed differently. Still, the American Council on Education (ACE) recommends that schools award 3 semester hours of college credit for a score of 50 or higher on the College Composition Modular CLEP exam.
How is the College Composition Modular CLEP test scored?
A scaled score is calculated, based on multiple choice questions and essay scores, that ranges from 20 to 80. The student then earns an A, B, C, or D based on this score. The letter grade is applied to your college course equivalent.
What's a good score on the College Composition Modular CLEP exam?
A score of 50 on the College Composition Modular CLEP exam, the equivalent of a course grade of C, will give you three credits.
Does College Composition Modular CLEP have an essay?
There is no essay on the CLEP College Composition Modular exam, however some colleges and universities may require a writing assignment in addition to the exam. If your institution requires a writing assessment, they will provide further directions as to what’s expected and will also provide a score for the assessment.
Who takes the College Composition Modular CLEP exam?
Those who have taken a beginning writing skills or college composition course are perfect candidates for taking the College Composition Modular CLEP exam. Students seeking college credit are encouraged to take CLEP exams. Home-schoolers, military personnel, and adult learners are typical CLEP test takers, but exams are also open to college and high school students. CLEP exams are helpful for students seeking higher education outside of the traditional classroom.
Is there a penalty for wrong answers on the College Composition CLEP exam?
There is no penalty for wrong guesses on the CLEP exam. It’s better to use your best educated guess instead of leaving an answer blank.
Should I study for the College Composition Modular CLEP? And how much?
CLEP exams test you on the equivalent of an entire college semester’s worth of curriculum in approximately 95 minutes. While the idea is to test you on material you are very familiar with, some practice on the content and test itself is in order as a satisfactory score earns you the college credit you’re after. While everyone is different, Peterson’s recommends at least 6 weeks of preparation for test day.

The knowledge and skills measured by College Composition Modular CLEP are the same as those measured by College Composition CLEP. The CLEP College Composition Modular exam test time is 95 minutes while the CLEP College Composition exam test time is 120 minutes. College Composition Modular CLEP also does not require written essays in its exam while the College Composition CLEP includes two mandatory written essays as part of its exam.
