That may be because many students take CLEP tests in conjunction with DSST tests. While both offer college credit, CLEP tests offer testing in mainstream subjects while DSST test subjects are more specialized.
How long is the CLEP College Composition Modular exam?
The College Composition Modular CLEP exam consists of 90 questions to be answered in 95 minutes.
How much credit can I earn for CLEP exams?
Each college and university has its own CLEP policy, and each exam is weighed differently. Still, the American Council on Education (ACE) recommends that schools award 3 semester hours of college credit for a score of 50 or higher on the College Composition Modular CLEP exam.
How is the College Composition Modular CLEP test scored?
A scaled score is calculated, based on multiple choice questions and essay scores, that ranges from 20 to 80. The student then earns an A, B, C, or D based on this score. The letter grade is applied to your college course equivalent.
What's a good score on the College Composition Modular CLEP exam?
A score of 50 on the College Composition Modular CLEP exam, the equivalent of a course grade of C, will give you three credits.
Does College Composition Modular CLEP have an essay?
There is no essay on the CLEP College Composition Modular exam, however some colleges and universities may require a writing assignment in addition to the exam. If your institution requires a writing assessment, they will provide further directions as to what’s expected and will also provide a score for the assessment.

CLEP exams test you on the equivalent of an entire college semester’s worth of curriculum in approximately 95 minutes. While everyone is different, Peterson’s recommends at least 6 weeks of preparation for test day.

College Composition Modular CLEP also does not require written essays in its exam while the College Composition CLEP includes two mandatory written essays as part of its exam.
